Emotional Intelligence – Needs a Measure?

According to www.health.harvard.edu  “emotional intelligence refers to the ability to identify and regulate our own emotions, to recognize the emotions of other people and feel empathy toward them, and to use these abilities to communicate effectively and build healthy, productive relationships with others.”

How do you begin to develop emotional intelligence? To try walking down that path without a measurement of your own personality is going to be a tough job. There is no need to guess about yourself, The Birkman Method measures you accurately and helps put you in context with other people.

Consider an example. You see yourself as direct and straightforward in your communication style. But you also think you are balanced, and you see your style as normal. Yes, there are some people who can’t take it, but they are the odd ones. After doing a Birkman assessment you learn that you are in the top 3% on a scale of direct communication. Most people do not communicate in a direct manner as you do. Learning that suddenly puts you in perspective. You now have a measure of your position in dealing with others. You have a starting point to understand how different others are compared to you and you have a starting point to begin developing your emotional intelligence in communicating with others. The measurement makes all the difference.

Do you know your personality in a measurable way?
